Free Genealogy Database Access

I hope you don’t have anything planned for this weekend, because we’ve got a genealogy bonanza on our hands.

No less than three membership databases are opening their records for free, for a limited time only:

AmericanAncestors, run by the New England Historic and Genealogical Society, is offering free access to 1.4 billion names from November 6 – 13. Register as a free guest and search their unrivaled collection of New England and New York records.

FindMyPast, with over 9 billion records in their entire collection, is free to search from November 9-12. FindMyPast specializes in English (UK, Irish, Canadian, Australian and New Zealand) and U.S. records. An added bonus is their access to UK and Irish newspapers. Get the most out of this offer by watching experts share their search tips in a livestream  on Friday, November 9 at 8 a.m. (if I’ve calculated the time right!)

Fold3, in honor of Native American Heritage Month, is featuring free access to all of their Native American records from November 1 – 15th.

FamilySearch, which is always free when you create an account, is spotlighting their World War I records. The offer includes newly released collections. So get comfy at your computer and settle in for a long weekend. Good luck!

Late update: Thomas MacEntee has a full list of databases with free access this weekend on his Genealogy Bargains website. Take a look and have fun!
