Genealogy Networking Update

tree-and-book

Our Genealogy Networking Group had lots to share at our recent meeting. Here are some of the topics we discussed and websites we shared:

The theme of the evening seemed to be connecting with known and unknown relatives. By using facebook, message boardsonline mailing lists, or the Guild of One-Name Studies, several of our group have connected with relatives.

The Family History Writing Challenge has proven helpful for at least one or two in our group. This starts in February but you can sign up now. You will receive daily emails with constructive, practical advice on writing your family history.

The Lake County (IL) Genealogical Society is interested in receiving stories about your World War II veteran ancestors for inclusion in their Quarterly publication. If you have an ancestor who participated in the Second World War, please write a few paragraphs about him or her and share it with the Society.

The Illinois State Archives, under the auspices of the Illinois Secretary of State, has several great databases that anyone with Illinois ancestors will find very helpful.

A list of facebook groups of interest to genealogists has been put together by Katherine Willson. Joining one or more of these groups from a geographical area related to your ancestors should prove useful for networking with other genealogists.

Our networking group is a fun group to be with and we always learn something new at each gathering. Join us for our next meeting on February 2 at 7 p.m. at Cook Park Library.
