What will be on the soundtrack of your summer? Here’s the scoop on an event that could inspire you to put some oldies on it:
At 6:30 pm on Tuesday, June 16, renowned Beatles’ scholar Aaron Krerowicz will present The Influence of American Rock ‘n’ Roll on The Beatles at our Aspen Drive Library. Before the Beatles wrote songs or performed on stage, they were listening to and learning from Elvis Presley, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Carl Perkins and other 1950s recording artists. Hear them all at Aaron’s multimedia program. Register.
Whether your soundtrack features old-time rock ‘n’ roll, today’s hits, or the music of different era, you can listen for free via our music CD collection and two of our eLibrary services. Freegal Music offers downloads and 24/7 streaming access to more than 9 million songs, including Sony Music’s catalog of legendary artists and music from over 80 countries. Go to your app store to get the free app on your tablet or smartphone. You can use Freegal to add Elvis and other early rockers to your playlist.
While you are in your app store, get the Hoopla app as well. You can use Hoopla to borrow full music albums of many popular and even hard-to-find artists to listen to anywhere, anytime. You can find Little Richard on Hoopla if you need to listen to “Tutti Frutti” or “Good Golly Miss Molly” to complete your summer.
But what if you play music and prefer to create and/or perform the tunes on your summer soundtrack yourself? Then you may want to reserve some time in one of our Digital Studios. We have an MIDI keyboard to play and record piano, organs, strings, synthesizers and other instruments. Bring your electric guitar, plug in to our audio interface, and dial up an amp in Garageband or Logic Pro to record those tasty guitar licks! Our professional studio monitor headphones let you crank up the volume for an unforgettable listening experience. And coming soon you’ll be able to check out Zoom handy recorders so you can even record at home!
Participating in our Summer Reading Club? Listening to music with Freegal, Hoopla or library CDs is just one of many activities you can complete to earn points. Attending library programs and using the Digital Studio earn points too! Visit any of our locations to sign up.
